As an artist and individual by going into a major like fashion design you are automatically apart of the global competition. Along with the competing against other designers you also have to collaborate and work with other artists and designers in major cities all over the world. I think that the fashion campus in downtown LA is a great location and it allows more opportunity than other smaller cities would.
