Not only is it another art form for one to express themselves, but it is also a useful tool when wanting to explain your own or someone else's work. You could have the best piece in the world, and if you wrote some crummy thing to back it up, and it can't be easily understood, the viewer might lose a little respect for the artist and not take the piece as seriously if the essay was written better.
