Week 8 topic

I intend to go into toy design, and I'm sure that a very large majority of my work will be done, and passed along through the internet. I can say without a doubt that I will almost constantly be sending emails containing my ideas to my superiors and my peers. I would also like to work from home, I know it's not going to happen, but I can dream right. Anyway if it did happen I would use a computer and the web to get all of my work from my comfy chair all the way to my boss, wherever he or she may be.

Week 6-Is Otis what you expected? Reflecting back to the days before you attended Otis, what did you expect to experience or happen? How is that that different from your actual experience so far?

Overall, Otis is what I expected. All Though I must admit that the work load is alot more than I thought it would be. I Knew I would be working hard and I didn't realize how long my classes were until I started with my six hour color and design class. But, I would say had a pretty good idea about what to expect here at Otis. The only thing that is really different from what I expected it to be like is that I don't get any sleep. I thought that I definitely would be getting more sleep than I am.

Week 5-Write about your experience at the foundation forward? What useful information did you receive? What do you wish you would have received that you didn't get that day? If you did not attend foundation forward, what did you do that day?

At foundation forward I was at the IPD tables. I did get a lot of useful information but I had already heard a lot of it just because Mike Kollins is my teacher fr my elective IPD class , so I knew most of what he was telling me. Overall, I was impressed with foundation forward and It really helped me make my decision about where I would go next year.

Week 4-What role will improved writing play in your life as an artist? Why write? If you’re an artist, what good will writing an essay do for you?

To be honest, I'm not really sure how much writing an essay will benefit my artistic ability. I mean it will definitely help me in other areas, but when it comes to art, I don't think it has too big of an effect. Writing helps me get out my thoughts on paper, so I guess it makes me a better communicator and it's just a necessary talent to acquire.

Week 3-In what ways do you think living in California, near the movie industry to be specific, influences your art?

I don't think it has influenced my art at all. I don't like to think that my art could be looked at in a materialistic superficial kind of way. Granted my life has changed after moving from small town to a big city but, I don't think it has effected my art in a "movie industry" way.

# Week 2-How has the experience of attending Otis affected your art or perception?

It has improved my art and my perception. I have been producing work that I never thought I could do before. I'm starting to gain an understanding of what it takes to become successful in the world of art and design. Definitely learned so much my foundation year and I have become a much better artist.

Week 1-As you are enrolled in art school, I would make the logical assumption that you consider yourself an artist. I want to know, based on your experience or insight, what is an artist?

I believe an artist is someone who is empowered by creativity. An artist is someone who desires to create things that are powerful, groundbreaking, and beautiful. They want to send a message to the world for everyone to see. They are not afraid to ask why or why not and they crave to make change.
