What is an Artist?

What is an artist? According to the dictionary an artist is a person who produces paintings or drawings as a profession or hobby. Now although that may be true in some sense, a more stereotypical sense, there is so much more involved in being an artist. Practically everyone is an artist in one form or another. If you have a passion for your profession and the things you create, than you are an artist. While a painter would be considered an artist with a paintbrush, a doctor could also be considered an artist with a scalpel. Being an artist entails loving what you do, practicing your craft with great enthusiasm and spirit. To be an artist you do not just have to paint or draw well, just express yourself in the ways you know how.
